When the Winter Winds blow, it's time to fly to the Big Island of Hawaii, the beautiful Orchid Isle. Please read this entire article and call us with further questions! We just returned from our home on the Big Island.  Temperatures there were 72-78 degrees.  The airlines will soon be raising price of their tickets, but we will not be raising our vacation rental fees until the Fall, so book early and save.  We have been renting our family's beautiful South Ka'u vacation home on ebay since 2001.  After Dad passed away, we had considered selling it, but then changed our minds.  We are situated in a secluded, country setting about 1.5 hours drive from Hilo and/or about 45 min. from Kona.  (See Big Island map in this listing).  We are approx. 14 miles north of South Point, the southern tip of Big Island which is further South than Florida.  Latitude 19.0662570, Longitude 155. 817216 coordinates for GPS search.  Homes here in the South district and the surrounding town of Ocean View, were built on old (1896) lava fields.   We welcome guests who prefer a fully furnished, 3 bedroom/2 bath modern, 1200 sq.ft home on 11.24 lava acres.  You may also view our vacation listing on VRBO.com under Oceanview/Ka'u on the Big Island. Rent prices may vary on that site vs. ebay.......... Family visits off and on throughout the year and the rest of the time we live in the Pacific Northwest. Our vacation home is available to eBay guests for short term and/or long term vacationers. Our home is not a timeshare, B&B or condominium, it is privately owned and operated.  Currently the dates for our 3bedroom/2bath home are May lst - December 21st, 2008.  Sorry, Christmas is already booked up.  I have researched other vacation homes in our area and could not find any 3bedrm/2bath homes, fully furnished, for less than $180 per day.  Many other Hawaiian vacation homes charge security fees, damage deposits, booking fees and whatever else.  We charge a non-refundable $50 cleaning fee but ask you to pick up the house and leave it neat and tidy when you depart. We usually book arriving guests at least 3 days apart from departing guests.  This allows us time to do laundry, linens/towels, remake the beds and prepare our home for the next guests.  INTER-ISLAND FLIGHTS: Aloha Airlines has filed for bankruptcy and is no longer in business.  Hawaiian Airlines, GO/Mesa and Island Air are currently the only interisland flights to the Big Island unless you fly direct mainland to Kona airport on a major carrier ie; United, NW, Delta or Alaska.  Bookings will be tight, so check your itinerary and book airlines early to assure your flight schedule. OUR POLICY:  We have a "guest honor code" and  rent to respectful adults including: singles, couples, families but take NO EXCEPTION to "party animals" or people with attitudes who do not embrace eco-travel philosophies, respect for ethnic cultures or the environment.  Come with a smile, a spirit of adventure and you will discover the Big Island has everything and more than you ever dreamed!* Check in time is 3:00 p.m. (or later), check-out time is 12:00 noon on the 8th day.  * You may reserve a 1 week's stay (8 days/7nights), for your family or couples (4 people/adults/children). * House can sleep up to 10+ people, but there is an extra guest fee of $25 per adult/child per week.  * Minimal $50 non-refundable cleaning fee.  Fresh towels & linens are provided and we do all the laundry after you leave. * Guest Honor Code: We do not employ a housekeeper or maid service.  This means that our guests promise to clean, sanitize and return our home exactly as it was when you first arrived. * Minimum stay is 4-days @ $150 per night.  * Discounted rates for 2 weeks or longer stay, please inquire.* Listing is for lodging only, your vehicle rental & airfare are NOT included in this ebay auction. Disclaimer: We do not charge a damage/security fee, but if there is damage to our home/contents or you leave the house a mess, we will send you a letter stating the additional cleaning fees or damage amount and bill your credit card. No one has ever had to pay this extra fee, and we appreciate the wonderful guests we have had over the years.LOCATION:When you arrive at either KONA or HILO Airport, you should rent an SUV or JEEP for the drive down a 2.0 "rough" private road to our home.  NO CARS OR CONVERTIBLES, as they have a low wheelbase and are apt to scrape bottom on the gravel road. Warning: If you choose not to rent a rough road vehicle, you drive AT YOUR OWN RISK and will be responsible to the rental car agency for any/all damages to your car.  The 6.0 mile"road to the sea" eventually comes to secluded beaches, tidal pools, etc. but 4-wheel drive is required to  maneuver this old Hawaiian fishing road.  You can fish or scuba dive at the end of the road, it is generally not a snorkelers or swimmer's beach due to undertow.  This is the ultimate "road less traveled" for those who seek adventure, rest, solitude, and magnificent sunsets. We are out in a pristine area with no bars, no nightclubs, no tourist shops, and no neighbors (except for one..........our house manager). This is a spiritual place, no urban noise, no traffic, just the trade winds, wild bird songs and silence.  Still think you want to come visit?  If so then read on...............ALTERNATIVE ENERGY:Our home operates entirely on SOLAR/WIND energy with sun panels and an aerodynamic wind generator (windmill).  Green power or photovoltaic energy is collected and stored in 12-volt batteries and converted into AC/DC electricity that runs all the household lighting, ceiling fans, radio, TV/VCR, blender, etc.   Microwave ovens, toasters and coffeemaker suck the energy from green power systems, so we cook the old-fashioned way, in a modern oak kitchen with all propane appliances; stove, refrigerator and water heater.  The tradewinds cool the whole house for "natural air conditioning" when you open the doors.  More Hawaii homes are utilizing alternative energy systems and you will be introduced to the generator and power system once you arrive.  If you use too many appliances or lights at one time, you might need to charge up the generator. (Leave your electric hair dryer at home!) Once you have settled in, mixed yourself a tropical drink or open a cold beer, kick back and enjoy.  Hopefully after one week, you will leave here with a different perspective, more keenly aware and appreciative of the power of natural energy.HOUSEHOLD:Our modern home is not lavishly furnished like high priced condos, but it is certainly cozy and comfortable.  There are (2) modern bathrooms with showers, bathtubs, sinks and toilets.  Our home is fully furnished, dishes, linens, towels, lots of board games, books, VCR movies, a portable radio and limited TV.  We are on a satellite dish that tracks late night TV shows (limited stations) if you are so inclined to watch the tube while on vacation.   There are NO phone lines here, so bring you own cell phone.  The best Island coverage is T-Mobile, so check your carrier to see about service on the Big Island.  Also a GPS system is helpful to locate our road entrance if you are traveling and arrive after dark. The coordinates are listed in the first paragraph of this listing so you may locate our home.  Big Island roads/hiways are not well lit with lights at night, like on the Mainland.  Remember: you are in "outback" country on the Big Island..............so be prepared.BED W/O BREAKFAST:  Enjoy cooking your own nutritious meals in a modern, self-equipped kitchen.  Pick up some groceries, fresh fruit and liquids in town before you venture down to the house.  BUT: don't over buy at the store, as propane refrigerators are much smaller holding approx. 15 cubic feet (see photo) for food and freezer foods.   There is a composter out back for disposable kitchen wastes, otherwise PLEASE, PACK OUT YOUR GARBAGE.  There is no garbage service on the Big Island so everyone goes to (2) county refuse sites located at Waiohino or Waiea stations.  We recommend you pack out your garbage DAILY when you leave the house on your way to town or the beach.  There is a local laundromat, very modern grocery store/pizzaria, 2 restaurants, gift shop, video store, ACE hardware, post office and gas station about 4 miles drive to Ocean View town.   HOME BASE: Plan to use the house as your home base, and don't expect to see everything in a week (you can't) because the Big Island is over 4,000 sq. miles.  If you decide to camp out on the beach or stay overnight around the Island, that's perfectly fine, but there are no refunds, as you have reserved our house for one full week, regardless!  We have guests who come back each year to stay, so we know we have something special to offer.  Required Reading: Please go to Amazon.com or the library and get the book by Andrew Doughty, an island resident who knows the Big Island.  His book: Hawaii: The Big Island Revealed, describes in great detail the remote South district of Ka'u, old sugarcane towns, bat caves, lava tubes, remote beaches, hot ponds, fresh water ponds, ancient petroglyphs, hiking trails, scuba & fishing spots, and about 37 maps to find more hidden and historical places not covered in other Hawaii books. RESERVATIONS & PAYMENTS:If you are the high bidder, you must pay within 3 days after this eBay auction closes.  We accept major VISA/Mastercards through our Merchant Business account.  At close of auction, please phone (360) 352-7054 with credit card # to verify your payment.  INTERNATIONAL GUESTS are always welcome and we accept major credit cards as well.    Money orders or bank cashier's checks must be in U.S. currency only.  You will make full payment to reserve your dates by phone.  SORRY, NO PAYPAL!   Please feel free to ask questions before you bid.  We want your stay to be comfortable and memorable!CANCELLATIONS:No later than 30-days before your scheduled arrival.  If you must cancel, refunds will be 30% of what you bid, plus you will be charged eBay listing fees and $50 gratuity for time loss on the reservation.  OPTION: If emergencies do arise, we will allow you to put your paid reservation "ON HOLD" and you may reschedule your vacation, up to 1 year from your original date.  No airlines or hotels can offer this guarantee to their guests.  You are booking directly through us and not third-party affiliates or travel agents.   Also, 11.42% Hawaii tax is required on every condo, hotel room, cottage or vacation home.   Finally, you pay $6.95 postage for a mailer packet including guest rental contract, receipt of payment, house rules/policies, local interest articles , Hawaii magazine, how to conserve on solar/wind power, Hawaiian greetings, additional photos, a local area map and more. We hope we have answered most of your (FAQ's) frequently asked questions.  We do not live or stay at the house, so guests have it all to themselves.  Once you reserve and make payment, we will mail you a packet with a rental agreement, house map, information on places to visit and sites to see.  The rental agreement must be signed and mailed to our home office prior to your arrival on the Big Island. Once your plane lands and you pick up your rental vehicle, you will drive to our vacation home where Joanne (our local resident manager) will meet you with the keys to the house and give you the tour.  "By listing this auction, I verify that I am the actual travel agent or travel provider and not a third party affiliate.  The travel/accommodations in this auction will be booked directly through me and not an outside agency.  I also verify that, other than the government taxes and related postage fees stated within the listing description itself, there will be absolutely no additional fees, charges or after auction purchases associated with booking travel/accomodations within this listing."Square Trade Travel Verified #016940429634.  In order to qualify to list our home, we must go through an extensive screening process to obtain a Square Trade Logo.  We own this property which protects you as our guest(s) and allows us to offer you this terrific deal only through eBay.  LUCKY COME HAWAII and we'll leave the light on for you.  MAHALO NUI
